An Event Report By Catherine

Thanks to COVID, the annual Pies to Pacific (Yatala to Byron Bay) fundraiser ride for the MND & Me Foundation in May was cancelled, but October 11 saw 93 riders don their bright orange kit to join the 10th annual Ride the Range in Toowoomba and surrounds in support of the MND & Me Foundation. Of those, Carina Leagues Triathlon Club sent 8 brave cyclists to undertake varying distances from 112 kms to 160 kms. 160 kms is equivalent to 100 miles, and those who completed this distance would have achieved over 1825 metres of climbing.

They overcame mechanical issues, weather conditions, losing their ride buddies and a really tough course to represent our club brilliantly. Riders along the way described it as a great ride, with beautiful scenery, travelling through scenic country towns including Mulgowie, Laidley and Gatton.

Kevin and Catherine offered support, encouragement and extra fuel to the riders, pictured below at the second last rest stop where a shady break was welcome. Kitty also made the trip to Toowoomba to support the team, cheering all the riders on at the start and finish.

Coach Rob described the ride as “brilliant” and “a great day out” and highly recommends it for the future. He is pictured below demonstrating how strong he still felt at the end of the ride. Cara, Liz and Alan rode together on the day as a happy trio. Congrats to Alan on completing his longest (and hilliest) ride!

Steve and Laura showed The Wall who the boss was, and powered up the final hill together to the finish. Alison and Helen dominated the 160km distance and brought the ride home strongly. Happy finishers one and all.

Liz finished with a big smile showing her relief and sense of accomplishment from making it up that monster final climb. Wonderful achievements everyone!

The team finished off with a BBQ at Bunnings with the $900 raised going to MND! And yes – it poured rain! All on the team are so grateful to everyone who helped them with their fundraising efforts for both the Bunnings BBQ and Ride the Range events.
